It’s been a few years since we’ve released something on our own. Aside from the launch of our iOS strategy game Mesa in 2014 and the creation of our open-source edge computing platform in 2016, we’ve had our heads down on client projects with little time to spare.
Screenarino came about in the moments between projects. Led by members of Forest Giant’s engineering team, Screenarino started out as a way for us to share funny gifs through Slack on the spare screens we had around our office. Over time, we started putting more attention towards Screenarino to evolve it into something greater.
WHAT DOES SCREENARINO DO?
Screenarino is a Slack application that enables anyone to send web content to screens. Using the Slack slash command
/screenarino, you can display any URL on the web to a designated screen outfitted with the Screenarino client application.
Our companion client application supports all major operating systems (Windows, Linux, Mac) and can even run on a Raspberry Pi, making Screenarino a flexible and inexpensive solution for digital signage, wayfinding, live dashboards, livestreams, and much more.
Content can be shared to connected screens using the
/screenarinocommand on Slack.
HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM ________?
Unlike existing tools, Screenarino doesn’t require proprietary sender or receiver devices to run. If you’re able to chat on Slack and have the Screenarino client installed on the screen you want to cast to, you can send content! Screenarino can be run on any device with Slack, making it perfect for multi-device teams and environments.
WHAT TYPES OF CONTENT DOES IT SUPPORT?
Anything with a URL! This means the latest memes, gifs, videos, dashboards, reports, presentations, livestreams, and more. Screenarino can be used for a wide variety of purposes - both playful and professional - such as displaying a restaurant’s daily specials, an agency’s realtime analytics, wayfinding for a conference event, and whatever else you’d like to see on a screen.
Use Screenarino to display daily specials, live dashboards, wayfinding, or anything with a URL.
THAT’S AMAZING. I WANT IT!
Screenarino is available for download at screenarino.forestgiant.com. Under our free tier, you can have up to 2 active Screenarino clients (two screens/displays) with 25 Screenarino commands per day. For users that want to control additional screens or need to change content more frequently, contact us.
As with all Forest Giant projects, Screenarino is a labor of love. We hope you enjoy it!
